How to Save Big on Your Air Conditioning Bill

The heat is on, and so is your air conditioner. To avoid running up a shocking energy bill here are a few tips.
  1. Set your thermostat as high as you comfortably can. Putting it at 78 instead of 72 cuts your A/C bill by almost 50%
  2. Close your fireplace damper, as well as the doors to any rooms you are not using.
  3. Install foam gaskets behind light switch plates. This will help prevent cooled air from escaping into the walls
  4. Put solar film over your skylight. It lets in light but keeps out excess heat.
  5. Use floor and ceiling fans to promote better air circulation.
  6. Close the drapes and blinds on the sunny side of your home.
  7. Wash laundry and dishes late at night or early in the morning, when your home is cool. Use your outdoor grill instead of your stove.
  8. Keep your air conditioner fiters clean. Dirty one force the unit to work harder and use more energy.
